2020 – A Tough Year Impacted by Coronavirus

When the coronavirus outbreak found it’s way to Europe and threatened to break in the UK, the choir took the decision to halt rehearsals and recommend isolation for it’s choristers. Within a couple of weeks, the Government had imposed a formal lockdown which was clearly going to last for some months. As a result, with a heavy heart, the choir was forced to cancel the Annual Concert for 2020. We had hoped to maybe postpone it until late Autumn, but as time has passed and the virus has done it’s,worst, it became clear that this would not be practicable.

Not to be disappointed too much, some choristers have decided that at 7pm on the 16th May, which would have been the date of the concert, they will listen to a recording of “Messiah” and sing along from the comfort of their sofas.

On the basis that we could not be sure when we would be able to get back together again to rehearse, it was decided that the planned performance of Handel’s “Messiah” will now be performed on the 15th May 2021. We hope that the same soloists will be able to sing with us and that our loyal audience will come and join us at St Margaret’s Church.

In the meantime, stay safe and take care. We will be back.

2020 – Blwyddyn Arw dan ddylanwad y Coronafirws

Wrth i bandemig y coronafirws ledu i Ewrop, gan fygwth effeitihio ar y DU, penderfynwyd gohirio ymarferion y côr a chynghori ei aelodau i feudwyo. Ymhen ychydig wythnosau cyflwynodd y llywodraeth, hithau, bolisi ynysu gorfodol, gyda thebygrwydd ei barhau am rai fisoedd. Gyda chalon drom, felly, bu rhaid i`r côr ohirio Cyngerdd Flynyddol 2020. Roeddem ni wedi gobeithio ei gohirio tan ddiwedd yr Hydref, ond gyda threigl yr amser, ac wrth i`r firws adael ei ôl, death yn eglur na fuasai hyn yn ymarferol.

Er mwyn lleddfu ar y siom, mae rhai o`n catorion wedi trefnu gwrando ar recordiad o`r ‘Messiah’, o gludwch eu carrefi, am 7pm, ar Fai 16eg, sef dyddiad arfaethedig y gyngerdd, gan ymuno yn y canu.

Gan nad oedd sicrwydd pryd yn hollol y gellid ail-ymgynull i ymarfer, perferfynwyd y dylid cyflwyno`r gyngerdd a drefnwyd hyd Fai 15fed, 2021. Gobeithir y bydd modd i`r union unawdwyr ymuno â ni bryd hynny, ac y gwelir ein cynulleidfa ffyddlon arferol yn llenwi seddi Egwyls Farged Sant.

Yn y cyfamser, cadwch yn ddiogel a chymerwch ofal. Byddwn yn ein holau!

“O, bydded i`r heniaith barhau”

Now, there`s a challenge during this time of lockdown, isolation, social distancing – learn Welsh at home. Why not meet the challenge of this final line of our national anthem. Ruth Jones (of ‘Gavin & Stacey’ fame) and other celebrities are showing how learning Welsh could be the highlight of your Spring/Summer. Check them out on Sunday night, ‘Yr Iaith ar Daith’, 8pm, S4C. Alternatively, the Open University`s free online language courses are superb – Welsh for beginners included.

Pob lwc!

Hywel.
