Choir Quiz Fish and Chip Night – 11th July 2018

Just like Parliament, the Mountain Ash and District Choral Society has a recess during the Summer period. However, this didn’t start until after an “end of term“ Quiz, Fish and Chip night on the 11th July in St Margaret’s Church Hall, Mountain Ash at the end of a busy first 6 months of the year.

Very ably organised by Social Secretary Maureen Smith, Peter Ford provided a challenging and enjoyable quiz for the 55 choristers and partners or friends, who didn’t allow the World Cup semi-final stand in the way of their attendance (although there were some who kept a sneaky eye on the score without letting any spoilers out for those who wanted to watch the match on catch up TV). Fish or chicken and chips were the menu du jour, highly calorific but so nice.

Phyllis Brace, Choir President and her brainbox team won the quiz, many congratulations to all of them.

There was a surprise entertainment element to the evening when Averil Spindlove and Debra Williams gave a brilliant rendition of “Comic Duet For Two Cats“ by Rossini (if you haven’t heard this piece have a look on the internet, there are many versions available). To complete the proceedings there were several raffle prizes for the lucky few with winning tickets.

As always, an evening like this doesn’t happen without assistance from lots of choir members who collect money, move chairs and tables, make tea and coffee, wash up and contribute raffle prizes – all of which contributes to everyone’s enjoyment.

Choir members will now look forward to a continuing hot, dry Summer, coming back with enthusiasm to rehearsals on Wednesday, 5th September 2018.

Noson Gwis, Psygod a Sglodion y Côr – 11eg Gorffennaf 2018

Yn yr un modd â’r Senedd, mae Cymdeithas Gorawl Aberpennar a’r Cylch yn cymryd saib yn ystod cyfnod yr Haf. Fodd bynnag, dim ond ar ôl noson Gwis, Pysgod a Sglodion “diwedd tymor” yn Neuadd Eglwys y Santes Margaret, Aberpennar a gynhaliwyd ar 11eg Gorfennaf y dechreuodd y saib hwn. Diweddglo i gyfnod prysur 6 mis cyntaf y flwyddyn oedd yr achlysur hwn.

Trefnwyd y noson yn alluog gan yr Ysgrifennydd Cymdeithasol, Maureen Smith a pharatowyd cwis gan Peter Ford a oedd yn gryn her ond cafwyd llawer o fwynhâd gan y sawl a oedd yn bresennol wrth ei wneud. Serch bod rownd cyn derfynol Cwpan y Byd yn cael ei gynnal yr un amser, doedd hwn ddim yn rhwystro’r 55 aelod o’r côr, eu partneriaid a ffrindiau rhag fod yn bresennol (er roedd rhai yn cael pip slei ar y sgôr o dro i dro ni ollyngwyd y gath o’r cwd i’r rhai a oedd am wylio’r gêm nes ymlaen). Pysgod neu gyw iâr a sglodion oedd y “menu du jour”, bwyd llawn o galorïau ond bwyd hyfryd iawn.

Ennillwyd y cwis gan Phyllis Brace, Llywydd y Côr a’i chydweithwyr clyfar. Llongyfarchiadau mawr iddynt i gyd.

Roedd elfen o adloniant annisgwyl i’r noson pan rhoddodd Averil Spindlove a Debra Williams datganiad penigamp o “Deuawd Comig y Ddwy Gath” gan Rossini (os dych chi ddim wedi clywed y gân hon, ewch i’r rhyngrhywd, cewch ddod o hyd i sawl fersiwn ohoni). I goroni’r noson, roedd nifer o wobrau raffl ar gael i’r ychydig ffodus â’r tocynnau buddugol.

Fel o’r blaen, dim ond gyda chymorth llawer o aelodau’r côr y gall noson fel hon ddigwydd. Diolch yn fawr iawn i’r rhain a gasglodd arian, symudodd y cadeiriau a’r byrddau, gwnaeth y te a choffi, golchodd y llestri, a rhoddodd y gwobrau raffl. Mae hyn i gyd yn cyfrannu at fwynhâd pawb.

Bydd aelodau’r côr yn edrych ymlaen at Haf sy’n parhau i fod yn dwym a sych, yn dychwelyd i ymarferion â brwdfrydedd nos Fercher, 5ed Medi 2018.
