Mount Choral

What’s Coming Up?

The concert held to raise money for Guide Dogs Wales on the 26th September was a great success, raising over £1000 thanks to a large audience, some of whom not only paid the £5 entrance fee, but also contributed even more at the end of the concert, hopefully, because they enjoyed it so much!

Here’s what is coming up next:-

12th December

A Christmas Concert at St James Church, Llwydcoed at 7pm – tickets cost £6. We’ll have some festive music, Christmas poems and readings will be read, and the audience will get the chance to sing some carols and enjoy mince pies and mulled wine, all included in the price of the ticket.

19th December

The choir will be participating in the Nine Lessons and Carols service at St Margaret’s Church, Mountain Ash at 7pm. An opportunity to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

2019 Annual Concert

We are delighted to announce that our Annual Concert in 2019 will take place on 18th May in St Margaret’s Church, Mountain Ash. We will be joined by the City of Cardiff Symphony Orchestra and two professional soloists, about whom more will be shared closer to the concert.

The concert will comprise two 2 well known and very popular works, Karl Jenkins The Armed Man and Gabriel Fauré Requiem.

The Armed Man charts the growing menace of a descent into war. It is interspersed with moments of reflection and shows the horrors that war brings. It ends with the hope for peace when sorrow, pain and death can be overcome.

The piece was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum for the Millennium celebrations, to mark the museum’s move from London to Leeds, and it was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis. It is a piece of music which has been of particular relevance in the centenary year for the end of World War 1.

Gabriel Fauré composed his Requiem in D minor, between 1887 and 1890. The choral-orchestral setting of the shortened Catholic Mass for the Dead in Latin is the best-known of his large works. Its focus is on eternal rest and consolation. He composed the work in the late 1880s and revised it in the 1890s, finishing it in 1900.

We hope you will make a note in your calendar and join us for what promises to be a wonderful concert.

Beth sydd ar y gorwel?

Llwyddiant mawr oedd y cyngerdd a gynhaliwyd ar 26ain Medi er budd Guide Dogs Cymru a hoffai’r côr ddiolch i’r gynulleidfa fawr am godi dros £1000.  Cyfrannwyd sawl a oedd yn bresennol nid yn unig y ffi mynediad o £5 ond, ar ddiwedd y cyngerdd, mwy o arian.  Rydym yn gobeithio y gwnaethon nhw hyn oherwydd rhoddodd y cyngerdd gymaint o bleser iddynt!

Dyma’r digwyddiadau sydd ar y gorwel:-

12fed Rhagfyr

Cynhelir Cyngerdd y Nadolig yn Eglwys y Sant Iago, Llwydcoed am 7yh a phris y tocyn yw £6.  Canir cerdd yr Ŵyl, darllenir cerddi a darlleniadau’r Ŵyl a bydd cyfle i’r gynulleidfa canu carolau ac i fwynhau mins-peis a gwin poeth sy’n cynnwys ym mhris y tocyn.

19eg Rhagfyr

Bydd y côr yn canu yng ngwasanaeth Naw Llith a Chorolau yn Eglwys y Santes Margaret, Aberpennar am 7yh.  Mae’n cyfle i ddathlu gwir ystyr y Nadolig.

Cyngerdd Blynyddol 2019

Rydym yn falch i gyhoeddi y cynhelir ein Cyngherdd Blynyddol 2019 ar 18eg Mai yn Eglwys y Santes Margaret, Aberpennar.  Bydd Cerddorfa Symffoni Dinas Caerdydd a dau unawdwr proffesiynol yn ymuno â ni.  Rhannir rhagor o wybodaeth am yr unawdwyr yn nes at ddyddiad y cyngerdd.

Cynnwys y cyngerdd fydd dau waith adnabyddus a phoblogaidd iawn, Karl Jenkins The Armed Man a Gabriel Fauré Requiem.

Gwaith sy’n mapio’r bygythiad cynyddol o syrthio i ryfel yw The Armed Man.  Gwasgarir y gwaith â momentau o adlewyrchiad ac ymddengys yr arswyd a achosir gan ryfel.  Mae’n gorffen â’r gobaith am heddwch pan y gall gofid, poen a marwolaeth yn cael eu trechu.

Comisiynwyd The Armed Man gan Amgueddfa’r Arfdai Brenhinol i ddathlu’r Mileniwm ac i nodi yr oedd yr amgueddfa yn symud o Lundain i Leeds, a chysegrwyd i ddioddefwyr yr argyfwng yn Kosovo. Mae’n darn o gerdd sydd wedi bod o berthnasedd arbennig wrth i ni gofio can mlynedd ers i’r Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf ddod i ben.

Cyfansoddodd Gabriel Fauré ei Requiem yn D leiaf rhwng 1887 a 1890. Ei waith mawr mwya adnabyddus yw Requiem sy’n gosodiad corawl-cerddorfaol o’r Offeren Gatholig byrfodd i’r Meirw yn Lladin.  Ffocws y gwaith yw gorffwys tragwyddol a chysur.  Cyfansoddodd y gwaith yn niwedd y 1880au a chafodd ei ddiwygio yn y 1890au a’i orffen yn 1900.

Gobeithiwn y nodwch y dyddiad hwn ar eich calendr ac y byddwch yn ymuno â ni am gyngerdd bendigedig.

Thanks to everyone for a successful and suitably festive Christmas concert last night in Llwydcoed. Good to see a full church and let’s hope a goodly sum was raised for church funds. Special thanks to those who did all the organising and to those who helped with moving the keyboard, music stand, speaker, chairs etc. We just got through the last verse of the Gardner piece, well done. I’m sure it will be perfect next time!
Looking forward to the Nine Lessons and Carols in St Margarets’s.

    Andrew
